NOPD Investigating Shooting, Homicide in Fifth District

NOPD Investigating Shooting, Homicide in Fifth District

The NOPD is investigating two shootings that occurred tonight (November 27, 2023), in the Fifth District that left four people injured and one person dead.

At about 4:10 p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of shots fired at North Claiborne Avenue and Elysian Fields Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male gunshot wound victim on scene. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Detectives were later notified of a second victim from this incident that arrived at a local hospital by private conveyance.

A few minutes later, NOPD Fifth District officers were notified of another shooting in the area of Henriette Delille Street and St. Anthony Street. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male gunshot wound victim. He was transported to the hospital where he was later declared deceased. Detectives were later notified of two more victims from this incident that arrived at a local hospital by private conveyance.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. 

Any possible connection between the scenes is currently under investigation.

No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
